Well, hello!

Welcome to my ever-transforming spatial niche! In this virtual design archive you may find examples of what I do as an interdisciplinary designer, researcher, and educator. My completed works include a spectrum of projects and affiliations that include architecture, furniture design, civic placemaking, biodesign and participatory public art through a gradient of analog, digital, anti-disciplinary, interspecies, and/or multi-scalar possibilities. Work shown here steers towards collaborative projects that connect diverse communities through co-creative experiences—ones that encourage public participation and agency to be radically curious, inclusive, and creative. If you would like to see examples of professional work not highlighted here, please reach out! Trained as an architect, my work has stretched beyond the building industry to include traveling VR exhibits, participatory public art + social sculpture, urban furniture, renewable energy systems, and modular + portable construction. My professional design practice includes international completed works with cultural institutions, government agencies, private clients, and non-profit organizations in locations such as North America, Haiti, and South Africa. More local, professional work encompasses small scale residential and commercial architecture endeavors. Academic experience includes being faculty for MFA ID:IX at California College of the Arts (CCA) courses and University of California, Davis Department of Design. *** My design practice and research explores the possibilities for multi-sensory experiences, interfaces, prototypes, and environments —through the lens of architecture, living systems, and spatial ecologies—via methods engaging socially and environmentally responsible design and community building. *** As a design researcher, my work examines the intersections of theory, practice, and experimentation of material culture, public space, interspecies interaction, and transdisciplinary tools and methodologies. For the past few years, I have focused my research on ways for creating interactive biodesign for bioremediation in public spaces. *** As an educator, my primary goal is to inspire discovery and development of lifelong learning skills while developing technical and interpersonal skills within the design practice that sparks meaningful reflection along the way. I am committed to sustaining dialogue and cross-departmental research with students, fellow educators, and professionals working on the growing edge of design and technology. I strive to educate and equip students with critical design thinking skills that inspire novel strategies for solving real-world challenges. *** I currently teach in the Department of Design at the University of California, Davis. *** Feel free to contact me for more info or just to say hello.
